Healthcare has gone digital. Looking at technology solutions to free up resources to focus on patient care is typically the first step and the first mistake.

Here are a few steps that practices need to take to comply with the requirements for Good Faith Estimates.

Putting together a cohesive set of processes to reduce patient no-shows can be challenging and time intensive, especially for busy practices. But, doing so is critical to both optimizing revenue and increasing the quality of patient outcomes.

This is the 3rd installment of the No Surprise Act series where we will take a look at how the rule applies to the emergency setting.

As practices look to drive down their rate of no-shows, there are several strategies we see practices put into place that seem promising, but ultimately aren’t effective, and in some cases have the opposite effect and drive patients away from the practice.

The No Surprises Act (NSA) addresses the situation of what happens when an out-of-network provider sees a patient in an in-network facility.

Patients forgetting and/or not receiving a reminder of an upcoming appointment was found to be the leading cause of patient no-shows. Scheduling conflicts and transportation issues followed as the next two most common factors. When combined, these top three issues account for nearly two thirds of all missed appointments.

There may be technical safeguards practices can implement within practice management and billing systems to satisfy these new requirements from the No Surprises Act to avoid any unintentional balance billing; however, there is no guarantee such stopgap systems will catch all potential scenarios.
